POPULAR QUESTIONS

  • Should I consider using synthetic motor oil?

Synthetic motor oil flows easier in cold weather, therefore no loss of prime when the oil is cold. Also, it is highly resistant to viscosity breakdown (the ability of the oil to flow easily in all temps) from heat, friction, chemical contaminants. Motor oil needs to be kept full, clean from fragments, and not burnt. The oil lubes essential engine components. Moving parts create rubbing, and over time that rubbing wears the parts down. Oil, or a synthetic lube, could lessen the damage from the heat by those moving components. By having a regular oil change service schedule, you will positively increase your engine’s efficiency as well as expand the life of your vehicle’s engine.

  • What parts should be replaced at what intervals?

Starting with the basics, your car needs an oil change every six months or 7,500 miles, whichever comes first. That’s the general rule. Ignore the quick change oil outlet’s enforcement of the 3,000 mile rule. More oils changes means more money for them. At the time of an oil change, your oil filter will need to be replaced as well.

Depending on where you live, your battery can last anywhere from three to six years. Be sure to look over your battery at least once a year for leaks, cracks, or bulges. Any of these signs mean it’s time for a new one sooner than later.

In pristine conditions, your tires only need replaced every three to seven years depending on how much you drive. Be sure to check how many miles your tires are rated for! Misalignment, unbalanced tires, sharp turns, and consistent hard stops will lessen the life of your tires.

As for your belts, your timing belt should be replaced at about 100,000 miles unless you’re constantly revving your engine into the red zone. Your serpentine belt might last that long but to be on the safe side, replace it around 75,000 miles.

  • How do I keep track of routine maintenance?

Your car needs a lot of routine maintenance, from changing your oil to rotating your tires, and a bunch of things in between that you forget about until they start to break. Routine car maintenance is mandatory in order to keep a car running properly. Always refer to the owner’s manual, dealer or authorized service professional for the particular service and intervals required.

Oil changes and air filters are very important parts of engine maintenance; however, a thorough inspection of all engine, transmission, cooling, brakes and suspension components should also be performed regularly. The owner’s manual provides a routine auto maintenance schedule based on engine mileage for most cars.
